The Settled & Secure Program
Specialized In-Home Support for Adult Dogs Adjusting to a New Home
Moving an adult dog from one environment to another creates a significant sensory shift. Unlike puppies, adult dogs carry established histories, distinct coping mechanisms, and high situational awareness. When their surroundings change completely, their sense of security is upended, frequently resulting in hypervigilance, fear, and defensive behaviors.
Is this program right for your dog?
This 4-lesson program is designed for newly welcomed adult dogs who are struggling to process their surroundings. This includes dogs who are startling and barking at every new sound—from the refrigerator door to a car passing outside—as well as those who are shut down and hiding under furniture, or anxiously trying to bolt out open doors.
The stress of this environmental transition applies equally whether your dog came from a shelter, a rescue group, or was taken in from a friend or family member.
Program Eligibility:
Age: Adult dogs at least one year old.
Timeline: Adopted within the last 60 days.
Location: Available within 20 miles of Gilmanton Ironworks, New Hampshire (NH)
A Note On Program Goals
Please note that the Settled and Secure program is designed to be the essential first step in your dog’s training journey, dedicated to easing them into their new life and establishing a calm daily routine. This program focuses on immediate real-world adjustment to create a safe space where your dog can learn most effectively.
Once that secure foundation is in place, you can choose to move seamlessly into the 6-week Foundational Skills Program, where we actively teach all of the core skills like loose-leash walking, recall, cooperative care, and peaceful household habits.
